What is an Artificer Apprentice job in Indian Navy:
An artificer is a skilled technical person in the armed forces – this is a catch-them-young program by Indian Navy - it inducts those Class-XII pass students who have 55%+aggregate (with Maths & Physics) for 9 weeks Basic Training at INS Chilka followed by 8 weeks sea training. Thereafter, Artificer Apprentice are imparted training for 4-years in technical training establishments. On completion of Artificer Apprentice in Indian Navy as a sailor, they have qualification equivalent to Diploma in Electrical/Mechanical/Aeronautical Engineering which is recognised by the Govt of India.
Post training, Artificer Apprentice are enrolled in Indian Navy for 20 years - which is extendable till 57 yrs of age. Promotion prospects exist up to the rank of Master Chief Petty Officer-I and even upto to commissioned officer for those who perform well and qualify the prescribed examinations.
During the entire training period, Artificer Apprentice are given books, reading material, uniform, food and accommodation etc. free of cost.
Eligibility for Indian Navy Artificer Apprentice Exam:
Only unmarried male Indian citizens and subjects of Nepal & Bhutan with following eligibility can appear in the exam:
Minimum 17 yes & Maximum 20 years on the date of enrolment. For Indian Navy Artificer Apprentice Exam 2012 for 133rd batch, DOB should be in between 1st Feb 1993 to 31st January 1996 (Both dates inclusive)
Academic Qualification Eligibility:
Min. 55% aggregate in Class-XII, with Maths & Physics and atleast one of the three subjects; Chemistry/Biology/Computer Science.
On top of above eligibility, you should have physical/mental traits as given in section: "10. Medical Standards" of the notification as well as in this Nausena sailor recruitment webpage.
Also, you have to qualify in Physical Fitness Test (PFT) which consist of 1.6 Km run to be completed in 7 minutes, 20 squatups (Uthak Baithak) and 10 Push-ups.

Indian Navy Artificer Apprentice Exam 2012 Online Application form
